How to use the Percentage Increase Calculator
Measure the absolute and percentage change from an original value to a new value. Enter the requested values, review their units, and select Calculate. The result panel shows both the answer and the substituted steps.
The formula
percentage change = (new − original) ÷ |original| × 100
Frequently asked questions
Can the result be negative?
Yes. A negative percentage indicates that the new value is lower than the original value.
Why can the original value not be zero?
Percentage change divides by the magnitude of the original value, so a zero original value would cause division by zero.
Important notes
